Bonnie

Image

Her head dangles over
the bed’s edge,

Lopped to the left, closed eyes
and an ear inside-out,

With little tendrils twisting outward from
her paws to grasp at passing affection.

Human years go too slow for
the racing patter of her heart,

Her terrier legs twitch through
technicolour dreams, exhausted,

From an afternoon spent tongue out
beating across the park.
